Sophia Lim

Policy Analyst, Singapore

"I came into the Refresher expecting it to be a refresher in the most basic sense. It wasn't. The session on paragraph architecture changed how I build almost every document I write now. The editing checklist is still pinned next to my monitor."

Ravi Balakrishnan

Compliance Manager, Singapore

"The six-week Series was more demanding than I'd anticipated, which was actually a good thing. The written instructor notes after each session were genuinely detailed — not generic comments. I found week four on formality calibration particularly useful for the kind of regulatory correspondence I produce."

Michelle Ho

Team Lead, Financial Services

"I sent two of my team members through the Series and both came back with noticeably cleaner drafts. The cohort being capped made a difference — they both said they received specific, useful feedback rather than general comments about being clearer."

Ahmad Taufik

Senior Operations Manager

"I'd done other writing workshops and found them mostly theoretical. The Indemnia Refresher was different because we worked on our own paragraphs throughout. By the second evening I already had a revised draft of a report I'd been struggling with for a week."

Joyce Ng

Head of Communications, Public Sector

"The Department Programme took a bit of getting used to at first, partly because the writing audit required us to share documents we don't usually share externally. But the audit findings were accurate and the drafting guide that came out of it is something we've actually used in new staff inductions."

Daniel Wong

Finance Analyst, Singapore

"I was sceptical about whether a six-week online programme could genuinely improve writing. What convinced me to try was the cohort cap — I'd done larger online courses where you just watch videos. The live sessions with sixteen people and an instructor who reads your actual work are a different thing entirely."

// Case studies

How the programmes played out in practice

// Case study 01 — Government department, Singapore

Challenge

A fourteen-person policy team was producing briefing notes that required two or three rounds of revision before they were approved. Senior staff were spending significant time rewriting rather than reviewing. The team had no shared drafting standard and no common vocabulary for feedback.

Approach

The Department Programme began with a writing audit of twelve recent briefing notes. The audit identified three recurring patterns: overlong sentences with stacked clauses, missing signpost sentences at the start of sections, and inconsistent use of the active voice. The drafting guide and subsequent workshops addressed all three directly.

Outcome

By the third quarterly workshop, the team lead reported that first-draft approval had increased noticeably and that feedback loops had shortened. New staff joining the team are now directed to the drafting guide and the recorded mini-lessons as part of their induction. Programme ongoing.

"The audit report was the first time someone had looked at our documents systematically and told us specifically what was making them hard to read. That alone was worth it." — Team Lead

// Case study 02 — Financial services professional

Challenge

A compliance manager was required to produce detailed operational reports that non-specialist stakeholders found difficult to follow. The reports were accurate but dense, and key findings were often buried three or four paragraphs into the document.

Approach

Enrolled in the six-week Drafting Skills Series. Used compliance report sections as the exercise material throughout. The weeks covering structure and formality calibration were most directly relevant. The facilitator's written notes each week were specific to the compliance report context.

Outcome

The participant restructured the standard report format, bringing findings to the front and using section headings to guide the reader through the logical sequence. Subsequent reports required fewer explanatory follow-up conversations with stakeholders. The participant's portfolio piece is now used as an internal example by the team.

"Week two on structure was the one where things clicked. I hadn't realised how much I was burying the headline." — Series participant
